MFT& Friends perform their debut Foundry 616 show, Tango Decadence
Maggie Ferguson’s quintet has an association which is long and strong, built on common ground in Sydney Conservatorium of Music and TangoOz. Since late last century Maggie Ferguson has shared her experience and passion for Argentine tango with her colleagues. With repertoire collected over many research and discovery trips to Buenos Aires, she creates programs of tangos from the Golden Age (1940s), to the brilliance of Astor Piazzolla’s Tango Nuevo augmented by her own arrangements of tango classics and some quirky hybrid moments.
Expect an exciting, accomplished and vibrant tango journey through the 20th century. MFT& Friends’ compatible musicianship, technique and sense of style, convince audiences of the enduring brilliance of Argentine tango and its ability to always sound new. Our dancers improvise with the sultry beauty of street tango dancers. We will talk about tango history, musical techniques and the instruments, indulge in composer anecdotes, and engage you in some joyous audience participation.
