Santiago Polimeni

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Santiago Polimeni began to play the bandoneòn at age 11 and went on to play professionally from age 15. He is a member of the Juan de Dios Filiberto National Orchestra of Argentine Music. Polimeni has performed at venues including John F. Kennedy Centre for Performing Arts in Washington, the home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

  • In 2009 Polimeni co directed master classes at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with Maggie Ferguson and Ignacio Varchausky, performing concerts with them in the Verbrugghen Hall and the Music Workshop.
  • In 2010 again with Ferguson and Varchausky, he participated in Resonate Festival for Canberra Youth Music, co directing master classes and performing in the Canberra Botanic Gardens and the Llewellen Hall.
  • He has played with numerous celebrated tango musicians, among them Emilio Balcarce, Victor Lavallen and Nestor Marconi.
  • In 2010 Polimeni performed the role of “bandoneon” in Astor Piazzolla’s celebrated opera “Maria de Buenos Aires” at the Adelaide Festival under the direction of Leigh Warren with dancers of the State Opera of South Australia.
  • He repeated this role with the same company in the Brisbane festival in 2011 and will return to Australia in 2012 for performances at the Melbourne Festival
  • In 2011 he was invited to record Tango Project Loca Bohemia with Maggie Ferguson, playing bandoneon in the quartet when she played violin.
