AUSTRALIAN TANGO BANDS – FUEGO BLANCO

Fuego Blanco is an emerging tango band from Sydney.

Members Kate Agostino, Isabella Brown, Annie Gard and Annie Zhang range in ages from 19 to 22 and have completed or are finishing degrees from Sydney Conservatorium of Music and The University of NSW

The group has been together for six years and began to play tango while studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music High School under the mentorship of Maggie Ferguson.

Their love for tango grew from their exploration of musical styles and genres beyond their classical curriculum; above all others,  it was this style of music that they found the most challenging and beautiful.

Through the opportunities made available to them, they began to gather experience by playing live performances, including cabaret shows and dance milongas.

Following their school graduation in 2008, they broke away from the school-based program and formed Fuego Blanco. At the same time they became foundation members of TangoOz 2009

In 2009 they performed at the first international Tango Escuela under the direction of Ignacio Varchausky, Santiago Polimeni and Maggie Ferguson at Sydney Conservatorium of Music

In July 2010 they  travelled to Buenos Aires to learn from some famous tangueros, notably, German Martinez and  Ignacio Varchausky and in October they performed with Varchausky, Polimeni (on their second Australian visit)  Ferguson and renowned didgeridoo  player William Barton at the Resonate Festival in Canberra.

More recently they have played at the 2010 and 2011 National Folk Festivals in Canberra and are in demand at concerts and milongas for their authentic sound and fine playing.
