NEW ENGLAND FESTIVAL OF CHAMBER MUSIC
STUDENT TANGO IN REGIONAL AUSTRALIA
I just love going to the country and meeting eager young musicans who are interested in world music.
Last week I was invited to take part in the inaugural New England Festival of Chamber Music which was held by New England Conservatorium of Music NECOM in Armidale, NSW.
Along with my colleagues from from Sydney, Melbourne and Armidale, we spent our days teaching young people who had come from the surrounding towns and country properties, the pleasure of making music with others
We introduced TANGO here for the first time. What fun to watch string students, sometimes as young as 7 years learning to play the marcato at the heel of the bow.

Most students had never played any tango nor seen a bandoneón. Brass intruments of all sizes were included as were recorders, flutes and clarinets. A challenge to play the articulation tango requires.
The week ended with a performance for Musica Viva by The Flinders Quartet with solo clarinetist, David Griffiths ensembleliaison.com and then three concerts the following day for all students.
Hopefully this festival will be an annual event. Thank you to all who worked so hard to make it happen.
More soon
